Top Three DIY Maintenance Tips for Your Air Conditioner, Part 1
With summers reaching scorching temperatures in the peak of the season, it is important to make sure your air conditioner is in top condition. Before your HVAC system gets a workout, it is recommended that your AC unit receive a professional tune-up from one of our professionals at McQuerry’s 24-Hour Heating
to ensure everything is running properly. During the rest of the year, if your unit seems to be functioning properly, there are a few DIY ways to get the most functionality out of your air conditioner
1. Take Care of Your Air Filter
Every month, take a little time to clean or replace the air filter inside your air conditioning unit. While cleaning, make sure to turn your air conditioner off in order to prevent damage. Before starting, it’s a good idea to read the owners manual of your particular unit to ensure that you are using the proper DIY methods to clean your filter.
2. Keep Your Unit Clean
Whether the weather is hot or cold, debris can start to build up on your air conditioner. Every month, make sure to remove any loose leaves or other rubble that may have accumulated on your outdoor condenser unit. When you turn your unit off to change out your filter, take this opportunity to also clean your coils and fan blades.
3. Plan Your Yard Efficiently
If possible, keep any trees, vegetation and grass clippings at least two feet away from your outdoor unit. In order to get the most out of your air conditioner, you should also try to shade your outdoor compressor. If correctly shaded, your unit can be up to 10 percent more efficient during your warmest months.
