What makes a Heat Pump Special?

Heat Pump InstallationDepending (usually!) on your age, modern technology is the greatest thing since the world began or it is the curse of the modern society, rarely is there middle ground. However, we think we have something almost unique in that it can unite those two groups of people, the ‘techies’ love it because it genuinely is a technical achievement and the … mmm … others like it because it is super-efficient and will generally lower energy bills by quite some margin.

Ladies and gentlemen – we give you the heat pump.

Same but Different

The two most common types of heat pumps are air and ground sourced. As you may have gathered from those names, one takes it source of heat from the air or atmosphere, the other from a pipe loop buried in to the ground on the homeowners’ property.
Both types of pumps are extremely efficient, just using energy to transfer the heat from one area to another, not to actually generate heat (in the traditional sense). There are talks of a near 70% saving over standard, traditional types of heating.

Cost

Of course, saving that kind of energy does have an initial cost, trench work for a ground loop can be labor intensive and as such, doesn’t come cheaply, but returns are easily calculated and a professional installer should be able to give you a good indication as to what point you should start seeing a return, rather than a cost. It’s a surprisingly short space of time generally.
