Install a Nest Thermostat In Four Easy Steps
Before studying how to install a Nest thermostat, be sure to have one of our professionals take a look at your current unit. In order to test compatibility, our specialists at McQuerry’s 24-Hour Heating will need to remove your current thermostat and take a look at the exposed wiring as well as the set up of the current heating and air conditioning unit installed in your home.
1. Remove Your Old Thermostat
Most thermostat faceplates will pop off easily with very slight force, while some models require you to loosen a few screws in order to get to the wires. If your system is bolted to the wall, there is a good chance that you have a high voltage thermostat. If this is the case, you should not connect your Nest unit to high voltage wires.
As you disconnect the wiring system from your old thermostat, remember to label your wires so that it is not confusing later when you are learning how to install a Nest thermostat.
2. Install the Base
With your old thermostat completely removed, pull the wires through the center of the Nest base and screw it into your wall using the built-in level as a guide.
3. Connect Your Wires
Since you have already labeled your wires, simply push down on the connector and reattach each wire with its corresponding label. There should be only one wire in each connecter of the unit.
4. Attach the Display
Making sure that there are not any wires in the way, push the faceplate display onto your base with the Nest logo correctly placed at the top. You should hear a click when it attaches properly.
